At the meeting point of land, tide and sky, Sculpture at Binalup unfolds across the shoreline of the place of First Light; Binalup | Middleton Beach.Sixteen contemporary artists gather here, responding to the themes of Past Present and Future through sculpture and installation. Their works trace memory, rupture, resilience and possibility — asking how stories of past and present shape the futures we are yet to make.
Binalup sits within Kinjarling | Albany, on Menang Noongar Country. We acknowledge the Menang Noongar people as the Traditional Custodians of this place, where culture, ecology and community remain deeply interwoven. Developed in close collaboration with Menang leaders, the exhibition seeks to hold space for truth-telling, reflection and enduring cultural presence within the Albany 2026 Bicentenary.
At its heart is WIRIN WAY — a Menang-led community installation guided by Aunty Carol Pettersen and Mae Elliott. Through school outreach and workshops on Country, young people and community members contribute to a collective work that honours Menang care, kinship and custodianship. WIRIN WAY is not only an artwork, but a gathering — an expression of connection that extends beyond the exhibition itself.
Sculpture at Binalup invites you to walk, to witness, and to listen — to the stories held in sand, salt, and sculpture.
Proudly supported by The City of Albany's Albany 2026 Community Event Sponsorship Funding.
