About this Event

WORKSHOP INFO
In Screenprinting 101: Photoemulsion, learn the step-by-step process of one-and two-colour screenprinting of detailed artwork using the photo emulsion method.

Since 2006, thousands of participants have learned the process, possibilities and benefits of screenprinting (aka silkscreening or serigraphy) at Possible Worlds and through our collective Spins & Needles. We are frequently considered the leading educator in Ottawa-Gatineau for accessible screenprinting education.

WHAT YOU'LL TAKE AWAY
  • Basics of designing artwork for printing, in one-colour, and two-colour
  • How screen exposure works.
  • Your own small art prints on paper or fabric you've brought with you.
  • Knowledge of how to set up a temporary or permanent screenprinting space at home, studio, or other places so you can continue on your own.
  • List of where to purchase materials locally or online.
  • Check out the unique features of our workshop at Possible Worlds and stuff you can make. The possibilities are endless!

REQUIRED MATERIALS
  • Your own materials to print on: paper or fabric (e.g. t-shirts, tote bags)
  • Your own artwork to print or select from our stock images.
  • All other materials will be provided

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Ideal for any level: beginners, those who want a refresher, those looking to put their artwork on t-shirts or on paper, or creatives who would like to add a new skill to their current skill set.

Spots are limited to 6 people per workshop to ensure you personally learn the proper technique and your questions are answered.

WORKSHOP FACILITATOR

Facilitated by artist-educator-director Melanie Yugo of Spins & Needles and Possible Worlds, who holds 20 years of experience in screenprinting and art education in Ottawa-Gatineau and internationally.

WORKSHOP FEE

To make this workshop as accessible as possible and to increase opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the arts, we're offering different options of participation fees. The amount you choose to pay goes to facilitators, operating our community space and keeping programming accessible, such as Object//Project Art Book Fair.

Option 1: Workshop

Option 2: Workshop + Screenprinting Kit (squeegee + a blank screen or screen with your own artwork)

Option 3: Workshop (Equity-Deserving Group)

NEXT STEPS

Look out for a second e-mail from us, approximately 5-10 days before the workshop, reminding you about the upcoming workshop + important preparation information (make sure to check your spam/junk folder). If you do not receive this second e-mail, don't hesitate to e-mail us indicating so.
