About this Event
“On their way back from Cannes Film Festival in 1971, filmmakers Wakamatsu Koji and Adachi Masao visited Lebanon to meet Japan’s Red Army faction and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine to shoot a propaganda newsreel film promoting the Palestinian resistance. Conceived as a ‘declaration of world war’ that implicates us all, the co-directors capture the everyday banality of military training and preparation exercises for imminent battle. The juxtaposition of the slow-paced ‘landscape theory’-infused style with the militant language of the declaration expresses the charged tension that revolutionary struggle brings about. Before leaving Japan to participate full-time in the Palestinian resistance, Adachi and his collaborators independently distributed the film across Japan on a Red Bus, bringing together cinema and revolution.”

About the partners:
Montgomery County for Palestine is a grassroots, anti-imperialist collective based in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, fighting for the total liberation of Palestine and all people. Their work is grounded in the understanding that they organize on stolen and unceded Indigenous Lenni-Lenape and Susquehannock land, and they honor the Land Back call for all Indigenous peoples. Tonight, they will facilitate a post-screening discussion connecting the film's themes to local organizing and the ongoing struggle for justice.
Other Forms is a mobile research and design collective working in multiple intersections of architecture, graphic design, and publishing.
Tomorrow Today is a bookstore and reading room located in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia seated inside Umbria Arts.
