This workshop will consist of a screenprinting demo where participants will be able to engage hands on by printing a shirt or tote that will be provided. Guests/participants are welcome to bring their own totes or shirts to print on if they'd like. The design that will be printed will be inspired by Velvet Penny. This demo will begin after the premiere screening of Velvet Penny's new music video.
This workshop is a part of a series hosted by Velvet Penny and Friends to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of her record, 'All the Flowers' which was released in dedication to raising awareness for Domestic Violence. To continue this mission, Velvet Penny is sharing her new music video to initiate continued community care through a series of free art workshops.
About Eduardo Muñoz
The foundation of my practice is printmaking, I’ve been experimenting with concrete sculptures and collaging as well. A lot of my creative inspiration stems from graphic design, ancient/pre-colonial Mesoamerican symbolism, typography, poetry, nature, and geometry. I consider my work to be abstract narratives of encrypted messages and symbols. Through silkscreen, I create prints on paper of encrypted messages and prints on canvas of abstract narratives, concrete slabs of encrypted messages, and collaged words from event concert posters on wooden panels. In my work, I feel I’m leaving behind seeds of positive affirmations through messages for any generation to relate to currently and historically if my work survives to be studied by future generations. Being a creature of creation, I find mental & spiritual stability and purpose in my work. As the youngest brother of four creative siblings, it was my eldest brother who is an artist who exposed me to silkscreen printing, seeing him work, visiting his artist homie studios, going to college for art, and many other things. If it was not for him and the support of my mother & family, I wouldn't be able to know what it means to create and the space for me to be able to continue to build on my craft & creative knowledge. The overall subject matter of my work revolves around leaving behind a physical memory that reflects the current times and remembering connections to certain words and phrases we have all experienced that represent some form of unity in our experience within our communities/world.

About Velvet Penny
Velvet Penny, is a musical collective, dedicated group of community organizers and artists led by singer/songwriter Marlena Martinez. For her debut body of work, Marlena spent several years creating ‘All the Flowers,’ which was released as an album, community zine, and award winning music video dedicated to preventing and healing domestic violence. ‘All the Flowers’ can most simply be described as an art rock album that explores the sounds of folk, alt-jazz, and psychedelia unified through the complexities of dissonance and the lightness of healing.
As a vocalist and community organizer working at the intersection of activism, wellness, and art, Marlena was awarded an artistic residency at CASA Pitzer in Ontario, California hosted by The Arts Area where her music video for ‘All the Flowers’ was on view from November 2022- February 2023. During the opening, Velvet Penny made their debut as a full band but most critically, Velvet Penny’s residency offered free education, art, and wellness programs designed to create kinder and safer communities. Workshops ranged in topics such as somatic consent, zine making, body and trauma work/healing, and self-defense.
