About this Event
This workshop is perfect for beginners, hobbyists, actors, and action performers looking to master screen action acting. You'll get hands-on training in fight choreography, body control, and movement techniques, as well as how to use facial expressions to create realistic and captivating action scenes. Additionally, you'll learn about storytelling, camera work, and editing techniques to enhance your performance. This workshop is led by Maria Tran and Adrian Castro.

FACILITATOR
Maria Tran is an Australian-born Vietnamese actress, martial artist, and action director. She is recognized for pioneering the martial arts action film genre in Australia, particularly within the Asian diaspora communities of Western Sydney, through her short films such as Hit Girls, Gaffa, and Enter the Dojo. Tran has also made significant contributions to Australian television with Maximum Choppage, and has appeared in international films including Roger Corman’s Fist of the Dragon, Death Mist, and the Vietnamese action blockbuster Truy Sat. Additionally, she runs the female-led film production company Phoenix Eye, which produced the independent action thriller Echo 8, now streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, Apple TV, and other platforms.
Adrian Castro, a writer, director, and editor from Sydney with South American Indigenous heritage, completed the series NIGHTWALKERS (2019) for ABC iView. His feature film, HIDDEN PEAKS (2018), is on iTunes via Gravitas Pictures. He directed the micro-series TIGER COPS (2017) for ABC iView. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, his short film DJANGO: SILVER BULLETS, SILVER DAWN screened at A Night of Horror International Film Festival. He has also created martial arts action shorts, including ENTER THE DOJO (2012) and HITGIRLS (2013).
The Echo 8 Trilogy: Story to Screen Workshop Series - Canterbury Bankstown is managed by Phoenix Eye Films & funded through the Community Grants and Event Sponsorship Program.
