🌱♻️ SCRAPS TO SOIL: Composting for a Healthier Planet 🪱🌎
Think composting has to be complicated or expensive? It doesn’t!
Join us for the September installment of Growing Resilience: First Saturdays at the Market and discover simple, practical ways to turn everyday scraps into healthier soil, whether you have a big backyard, a small garden, or hardly any outdoor space at all.
📅 Saturday, September 5
⏰ 11 AM–1 PM
📍 OKC Farmers Public Market | 311 S. Klein Ave.
🌱 FREE + come and go!
We’re excited to have Mary with the Oklahoma Compost and Sustainability Association (OCASA) joining Frances Smith, OKC Farmers Market District Manager and OCASA Board Member, for a fun and approachable morning of compost education.
Together, Mary and Frances will be talking compost, answering questions, sharing resources, and helping take some of the mystery out of getting started at home. Frances will also share her experience with vermicomposting and composting with worms. 🪱
Stop by throughout the morning to explore:
♻️ Simple, inexpensive ways to compost at home
🍎 What goes in your compost — and what stays out
🌿 Browns, greens & the basics of decomposition
🪱 Vermicomposting and composting with worms
🔎 Compost troubleshooting & educational resources
🌱 Finished compost and how to use it
🏡 Local options for food-scrap collection
🎁 FREE compost giveaway while supplies last!
We’ll also introduce you to the Farmers Market District’s new educational compost site, with opportunities to see how our system works and learn how scraps will be transformed into a resource right here in the District.
And remember, this is a come-and-go event!
There’s no need to arrive right at 11 or sit through a two-hour class. Stop by while you shop our weekly Farmers Market, stay for a conversation, ask your compost questions, explore the resources, and leave with ideas you can actually use at home.
Whether you already compost or you’ve always thought, “I’d love to do that, but I have no idea where to start,” Scraps to Soil is for you. 💚
Scraps → Soil → Healthier gardens → Less waste.
