About this Event
Join Our Scouting for Fraud Workshop!
Scouting for Fraud is a fun, interactive workshop designed to help you recognize common scams, spot warning signs, and protect yourself with confidence. Learn simple, everyday tips—no technical skills required—and follow our Scouting Guide if fraud occurs, so you know exactly what steps to take next.
This event is designed to be welcoming and engaging, with:
- Friendly speakers
- Fraud-themed bingo and prizes
- Free document shredding
- Electronics recycling
- Time to talk with Hometown Bank staff one-on-one
This workshop is especially helpful for older adults, caregivers, and anyone who wants straightforward information without technical jargon or fear-based messaging.
Our workshop is designed to be a fun, interactive, and educational way to learn about the latest types of fraud, how to protect yourself, and what to watch out for. You don’t need to be “good with technology” to participate. Everything is explained in plain language, with real-life examples you may actually encounter—phone calls, emails, letters, or in-person requests that just don’t seem quite right.
During the workshop, you’ll learn how scammers often operate, including how they create a sense of urgency to rush you into making decisions. We’ll talk about common warning signs—also known as red flags—and how to spot “false trails” that may look safe at first but lead to trouble. Just like a scout learning to read the signs on a trail, you’ll learn how to pause, think, and trust your instincts before taking action.
Scouting for Fraud isn’t about blaming or frightening people. It’s about awareness, preparation, and confidence. Fraud can happen to anyone, and asking questions or taking time to double-check is always the right choice. We encourage open conversation and provide plenty of time for questions and discussion.
And if fraud does happen, you are not alone. As part of this workshop, we share a clear and easy-to-follow Scouting Guide to help lead you across the terrain of correcting it. You’ll learn who to contact first, what steps to take, and how your bank can help you move forward and protect yourself in the future.
In addition to the educational sessions, the event includes engaging activities like fraud-themed bingo, prize drawings, free document shredding, and electronics recycling. These extras make learning more enjoyable while giving you practical ways to protect your personal information.
At Hometown Bank, we believe fraud prevention starts with education and trust. We’re proud to serve as a guide for our community—offering real people, real answers, right when you need them. With the right knowledge and support, you can stay on the right trail and protect what matters most.
