About this Event
Over recent years, Scotland has faced a worsening cost of living crisis, with the housing sector hit particularly hard. A lack of social and affordable housing, combined with the ready availability of buy-to-let mortgage credit, has pushed more people into the private rental sector, deepening socioeconomic inequalities. Cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow, along with areas like the West Highlands, have seen sharp rent increases, worsened by short-term lets like Airbnb.
While rent-freeze and anti-eviction measures helped tenants in Scotland during the pandemic, these measures have since been scaled back, leaving renters vulnerable to severe rent increases and poor living conditions. Living Rent campaigns at a grassroots level to combat unfair evictions, arbitrary rent hikes, and unsafe housing, whilst also campaigning at a local and national level to improve tenant rights.
Come along from 10:45am and grab a coffee before we start at 11am.
