For his latest book (August 2026) photographer Paul Horsted located the sites of 350 historic photos across South Dakota to produce a beautiful portfolio of “then-and-now” photographs. This ten-year project includes more than 100 towns and cities along with dozens of landscapes and landmarks in an oversize, 400-page full-color coffee-table book.
On October 10, 2026 at 2 PM in the Sturgis Public Library Community Room, Paul will present a program about this book. He will show some photos of Sturgis from this new book as well as surrounding areas.
Rare historic images are carefully matched with modern photos taken from the same locations today. These photopairs uncover South Dakota's history, informing our understanding of natural and human-caused environmental change over time while also revealing surprising similarities between past and present.
