About this Event
What is a Science Slam?
This event showcases undergraduate student presenters (or “slammers”) as they explain a science concept, law or theory in 5 minutes (this is a timed event!) without the use of academic slides or vocabulary, to a high school audience. Slammers are judged on their presentation engagement, science accuracy, and creativity.
We invite high school students and their families to join us and cheer on our slammers! Staff advisors and faculty will be available on-site to answer questions about our programs, courses and more about physics and astronomy. High school students have the chance to engage with undergraduate science students and ask questions about research opportunities, jobs, and university life in the Faculty of Science at UBC.
The Department of Physics & Astronomy Outreach strives to provide relevant science communication opportunities for our students at the undergraduate level to better prepare them for careers in academia, business, education and industry.
In the spirit of inspiring all young scientists, we invite you to join us for this very entertaining family science event!
