From crime scenes to courtrooms, forensics have transformed the justice system, but how do we communicate what the evidence really means?
About this Event

Join us for the prestigious Ruth Lynden-Bell Lecture as Prof Niamh Nic Daeid, internationally renowned forensic scientist, takes you inside the fascinating world of evidence, investigation, and the art of scientific storytelling.

With over 30 years of experience, global recognition, and work spanning high-profile cases and international organisations, this is a rare opportunity to hear from one of the leading voices in forensic science today.

✨ Whether you're passionate about science, law, or simply love a gripping real-world story, this is a lecture you won’t want to miss.

🎟️ Book your tickets now and discover how science speaks for those who cannot.

We have been using technical scientific evidence to assist criminal prosecutions for only about 160 years. Over that time, some of the areas of forensic science have remained essentially unchanged, while others have been revolutionised. What hasn’t changed is the need to communicate the meaning of traces recovered from people and places, and what their analysis means within the context of a case and there in lies the ultimate science communication challenge.

About the biennial Professor Ruth Lynden-Bell Lecture:

Professor Ruth Lynden-Bell Lecture was established to honour Ruth Lynden-Bell, now an Honorary Fellow of the College, and to celebrate the work of women in the field of Chemistry. Ruth began her academic career at the Universities of Cambridge and Sussex before becoming Professor of Chemistry at Queen’s University Belfast in 1995. She is internationally recognised for her pioneering work in computer simulations of liquids and disordered solids, was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2006, and is author of over 200 papers and key works in molecular simulation. Ruth is a longstanding champion of flexibility for women in science to enable a balance between career and life.
