Science Mill at the Blanco Library

The Science Mill is coming to the Blanco Library with two hands-on dinosaur adventures in one day! Young scientists can dig into prehistoric mysteries at the table, then create a dinosaur egg to take and excavate at home:
EGGS-CAVATION STATION
What if you could hold a dinosaur egg in your hands? Now you can! Step into the shoes of a real paleontologist and create your very own dinosaur egg using a special dough recipe. Tuck a mini dinosaur inside, shape it into an egg, and take it home to harden just like ancient rock. Then comes the most exciting part of all: grab a tool and excavate your dinosaur like a scientist uncovering a fossil buried for millions of years!
This hands-on make-and-take activity brings earth science to life by connecting the chemistry of crystallization to the real-world process of fossil formation. Kids of all ages will love the suspense of waiting for their egg to harden and the thrill of breaking it open to reveal what is inside.
DINO DIET DETECTIVE
Dinosaurs may be extinct, but the clues they left behind are still waiting to be discovered! With this experiment, you will step into the role of a scientist and use chemistry to figure out what six different dinosaurs ate. Test each mystery stomach sample, watch the colors change, and use what you find to crack the case. Was T. rex really the ultimate meat-eater? You might be surprised by what science reveals!
Millions of years ago, these creatures ruled the Earth. Now the evidence of their lives is locked inside fossilized remains, and it is your job to decode it. Armed with chemistry and curiosity, you will analyze six mystery samples, record your observations, and build a scientific argument about what each dinosaur really had for its last meal. Some answers will confirm what you already think you know. Others will completely change the story. Either way, science does not lie!
Two activities. One day. A whole lot of prehistoric science.
Join us at the Blanco Library for a roaring good time with the Science Mill. All ages are welcome, and no paleontology experience required. 🦖😎
