Science: Across the disciplines The Martian

Join us at Parkway Central Library, First Floor, Room 108 for a science film series!

This series will feature screenings and discussions of movies that explore how science is practiced across various disciplines and careers: whether it is through astronomy, investigative journalism, or botany and so forth. Film screenings will take place monthly from August 2026 - June 2027 and will be followed by a brief community discussion of film and science careers.

The film for September will be The Martian (2015) starring Matt Damon. This film centers on what creativity, science, and cinematography can tell us about surviving in space and space exploration systems globally. We will discuss what views governments have traditionally taken towards space exploration via the creation of NASA, and how the film portrays Astronomy.
