The Detachment, U.S. Engineers and Historical Impressions of America, Inc. will be hosting a School of the Engineer/Pioneer. The program will be held at the Daniel Lady Farm on the weekend of March 22nd and 23rd. Over the course of the weekend we will be teaching attendees on how to construct breast works, simple obstacles, simple fortifications, clearing roads, understanding/reading maps, and the use of terrain as an advantage. Our primary objective is offering units something different than the usual drill weekends. Our work will be used by the Daniel Lady Farm, FVB and CSA commands for skirmish weekends, Union or Confederate reenactment weekends, as well an interpretive display for visitors.Dress for the weekend is uniform or period attire. Unit commanders participating in this program can determine what they want their commands to wear (I.E. leathers, rifles, etc.) Please be prepared for weather (great coat, overcoat, and/or poncho.) The Daniel Lady Farm allows overnight camping. If you wish to camp overnight please let me know ASAP. I will make arrangements for individuals and units with the site representatives. I would need to know how many are attending and what time you plan on arriving.
We will have the tools needed for the work. We will bring shovels, spades, axes, knives, brush axes, saws, and rope. Feel free to bring period tools from your unit. The more we have the easier we can get the work done.
Please mark your calendars for the weekend of March 22nd and 23rd. For planning purposes I need a complete headcount by Saturday March 8th. Please contact me via the below email to register or with any questions you may have.
