Get ready for a powerhouse night of jazz, blues, funk, and soul as Lynne Jordan & The Shivers light up The Acorn stage in support of the School of American Music with special guest Martha Cares.
SAM is honored to welcome Martha Cares to open Jazz Fest Weekend at The Acorn on Friday, September 12, 2025, in tribute to her friend and collaborator, the late Garth Taylor.
Martha is celebrated for her unforgettable run of over one thousand performances in the national Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera. She has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Grant Park Music Festival, and orchestras across the U.S. and Europe. Martha's rich, versatile voice has also been featured in national commercials for McDonald’s, United Airlines, and more. This performance will be both a celebration of Martha’s extraordinary talent and a heartfelt tribute to Garth’s enduring musical spirit.
A Chicago legend, Lynne Jordan’s soaring vocals and larger-than-life personality captivate audiences across genres. Dubbed his “favorite diva” by the late Roger Ebert, Jordan and her sizzling band have become a fixture in Chicago’s music scene and beyond, performing everywhere from jazz clubs to sold-out theaters.
