As part of the Scene But Not Heard Project, which celebrates the heritage of the HU3 drag and gay performance scene of 1970s/80s/90s, we are inviting a small audience to participate in a test screening of this new short film: The Queen of Hessle Road.
The Queen of Hessle Road is a documentary, made by HU3 based film makers Oat Productions, that explores the life and career of one of Hull's most legendary drag artists, Bobby Mandrell. Formerly known as Kandy Lee Barry, ‘Ray’s’ incredible career spanned over 50 years and took him all over the world. This film captures his last ever performance, reflects on the amazing journey he has been on over the years, and closes the curtain on one of Hull's most talented and inspiring entertainers.
Join us, and some special guests from the scene at the time, to view the film, share your thoughts and help shape the final cut. We'd love to hear your reflections on Bobby's career, how the drag scene has shaped your life, and whether it's still an important scene today.
A selection of images from the new Scene But Not Heard archive, many of which are currently displayed at the HUFree Gallery within Western Library, will also be screened.
Popcorn, ice-cream, nachos and fizzy pop will be served to enhance your cinema viewing pleasure.
