𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: Howard Hawks helped establish the gangster genre with this seminal pre-code film. Inspired by real life criminal Al Capone — Paul Muni blazes across the screen as a ruthless gangster who rises through the ranks of a bootlegging empire by whatever means necessary. SCARFACE pushed on-screen violence to new heights upon release, but still shines with Hawks’ dynamic direction and Muni’s scary yet charming performance.
