The SBCV 2024 Fall Conference & Trade Show takes place live, in real time, in-person on Friday, November 15; Saturday, November 16; and Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel at 15269 104 Avenue, Surrey, BC, V3R 1N5. CE sessions and the trade show are in-person, but we offer an option for those who wish to attend remotely to participate by Zoom in real time. These sessions are not recorded so people attending remotely must be available and ready to participate in the live format, including asking questions, at the posted session times. This hybrid event has something for everyone.

The conference is still three days, but the Trade Show is only on the Saturday. Please plan on visiting our marvelous industry partners whose participation helps support our conference.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE: If you are purchasing a ticket for the in-person event, your ticket is only valid for in-person attendance.
REMOTE ATTENDANCE: If you are purchasing a ticket for remote attendance, your ticket is only valid for remote attendance. For remote tickets only, each ticket buyer MUST register with a unique email address -- you cannot use an email address used by your practice or shared with any other person who is also registered to attend. You MUST use your real name as your Zoom display name or you will not be admitted into the conference. If you are registering multiple individuals, please use a unique email address for each person.
NON-DVM (NON-VETERINARIAN) STAFF ATTENDANCE: As an exclusive benefit of membership, SBCV members can purchase staff tickets (cannot be for other veterinarians but can be for technicians, assistants, managers) at a greatly reduced cost. These tickets are available for Saturday and Sunday attendance and include refreshments and lunch.

Prices for veterinarian tickets are "per day" and there are no discounts if you do not wish to take a morning or an afternoon session. There are no refunds for any reason unless SBCV cancels the event. There is no price difference between in-person and remote attendance as there are specific costs associated with each category.
CE certificates are issued in hard copy for in-person attendees and by email for remote ticket holders. You can earn up to 14 CVBC-approved CE hours during the SBCV 2024 Fall Conference & Trade Show.
Any notes or presentations from presenters that are made available will be posted online and a link will be provided to all ticket holders.
Trade show booths are open on Saturday from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm. This is the best opportunity for BC veterinarians to meet colleagues and chat with our industry partners. Please be sure to thank them for their support of SBCV and this Fall Conference.
SBCV ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) IN-PERSON AND HYBRID:
SBCV members are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 5:30 pm. In-person attendance is in the Fraser Room and remote attendance will be done via Zoom link (members MUST pre-register). All SBCV members who register for the AGM REMOTE ATTENDANCE option will be sent a unique Zoom log-in link. This is a different link than for any educational session Zoom link. There is no charge to attend the AGM. You MUST use your real name as your display name when you register for remote attendance. Members who attend the entire AGM, whether in-person or remotely, will be entered into a draw for a $250 Visa pre-paid gift card.

During this round table discussion, Scott will draw from years of experience defending professionals before their regulators and advising small and medium-sized businesses, many of whom are professionals in practice. His remarks will touch on the relationship between professionals and regulators, advice about contractual dealings, navigation of employee/employer relationships, and best practices for business law. Dr. O will begin this session discussing anesthesia for patients with comorbidities. Attendees will consider anesthetic concerns and factors for stabilizing patients prior to anesthesia, as well as formulating a safe(r) plan. Attendees will learn proactive ways to stage cardiac disease. Topics covered will include feline cardiology, mitral valve disease in dogs, a refresher on mitral valve issues, and when to start medications (including pimobendan). SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
JENNIFER KIM, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology)
Dr. Jennifer Kim grew up in New York and received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania in Biologic Basis of Behavior and Psychology. After two years at the National Cancer Institute performing cancer genetic research, she attended veterinary school at Tufts University. Dr. Kim then returned to New York, completing a rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan followed by an oncology internship at Cornell University. She spent two years as an emergency doctor in New Jersey before accepting a medical oncology residency at Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Kim has been in private specialty practice in the greater Philadelphia area since completing her residency. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kim has held volunteer positions within the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, and for the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine at Rowan University (New Jersey).
SCOTT NICOLL, BA, MA, LLB
Scott Nicoll, BA, MA, LLB, is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and a partner at Panorama Law Group. He acts for professionals, including defending professionals who are the subject of complaints to their professional colleges.
ODETTE O, DVM, DACVAA
Dr. Odette O graduated from the University of Guelph (2001) with a BSc in Biology. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Guelph, Ontario Veterinary College (2004). After several years in small animal general practice, she completed her residency in Anesthesia and Pain Management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and became board-certified in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesics (2013). Dr. O believes anesthesiology is as much an art as it is a science. Being able to assess each patient individually and formulate a plan that best suits their specific needs is both the challenge and the beauty of anesthesiology. The chance to be an integral part of the care team to support the needs of both the patient and fellow specialists is truly rewarding to her. Her anesthesia-related interests include the practical aspects of clinical anesthesia and pain management, anesthesia of unusual species, and acupuncture. Dr. O completed the International Academy of Veterinary Medical Acupuncture course in 2012, then the CuraCore Advanced Acupuncture course in 2022. She prides herself on optimizing patient care and enjoys teaching anesthesia-related topics. Dr. O is currently the specialty medical director at SAGE Veterinary Centers, Dublin and is also an active member of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA), serving on numerous committees over the years.
MARGIE SCHERK, DVM, DABVP (Feline)
Dr. Margie Scherk graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1982. In 1986, she opened Cats Only Veterinary Clinic in Vancouver, practising there until 2008. She became board-certified in feline practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 1995, recertifying every 10 years since then. Dr. Scherk founded the feline medicine folder on Veterinary Information Network in 1994. An active international speaker and past president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, Dr. Scherk has authored numerous book chapters and scientific papers and was the co-editor of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery for 23 years.
MEG SLEEPER, VMD, DACVIM (Cardiology)
Dr. Meg Sleeper graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School cum laude in 1993 and returned to the University of Pennsylvania for a residency in cardiology. She worked in the section of cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania until 2016 when she joined the cardiology service at the University of Florida. Primary research interests include inherited heart diseases, in particular inherited cardiomyopathies, and therapeutic gene transfer. Dr. Sleeper has published numerous papers including over 80 peer-reviewed original papers, over 60 review papers or case reports, and four books.
