Do you love cheese? How does cheese make us smile? Would you like to talk cheese like a pro? The UNITED and William Wright & Co. present world-renowned cheese importer Adam Jay Moskowitz and award-winning cheesemonger Alex Armstrong as they teach you the basics about Cheese. Imagine a farmer TED talk where you learn the history of cheese, how to taste cheese like sommeliers taste wine, and become a master of cheese talk. Every guest gets a cheese flight consisting of 6 cheeses: cheddar, gouda, manchego, grana style, alpine, and blue. Adam and Alex will then taste you through these cheeses while providing a lesson on how to speak about cheese in a way that will foster a deeper, more meaningful connection with self, impress your friends, and ingratiate yourself to your local cheesemonger. Here are just some of the things you will learn: How is cheese made? Who cries over spilled milk? How can I describe cheese better than cheddar? What is the fat of the land literally? Why do we say “cheese” when we take photos? Does cream really always rise to the top? And is the grass really greener on the other side?
Adam Moskowitz is a 3rd Generation Importer. Today Adam owns and operates Larkin Cold Storage, Columbia Cheese, and the Cheesemonger Invitational. Larkin Cold Storage is a logistics hub for some of the world's finest cheese. Columbia Cheese is an import company that sources, markets and sells unique, best-in-class cheese from Europe under the banner Maker to Monger. But his crowning achievement was creating The Cheesemonger Invitational. Imagine an event equal parts: education series, cheesemonger obstacle course and artisan cheese festival. Adam has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, NY Times and Wine Spectator. He has appeared as a guest judge on Chopped, a cheese expert on Dr. Oz, featured on CBC Sunday Morning, and a regular on the Epicurious youtube channel. Alex Armstrong is a Certified Cheese Professional (CCPTM) and Certified Cheese Sensory Evaluator (CCSETM). Alex then moved to Jasper Hill Farm as Alpine Cheese Specialist, Sensory Evaluation Manager and Research and Development Specialist. Recently, he moved on to a role with Columbia Cheese as Product Specialist and Educator. In 2023, Alex was the recipient of the Daphne Zepos Teaching Award (DZTA). He has also had a podium finish a record four times at The Cheesemonger Invitational and placed third at CMI Masters.
This event is part of the UNITED Table series - a culinary entertainment series presented by the UNITED to celebrate the food we eat and the creative, hardworking people who take the care and thought in preparing and presenting that food, preserving its history, and filling our lives with the tastes, smells, and experiences that bring people together. Through conversations, tastings, book talks, food fests, and screenings from the culinary cineverse, The UNITED Table invites you to pull up a chair. Bon appétit!
