The first JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes took place in the early 1990s. It was conceived as a way to raise awareness and funds for Type 1 Diabetes research, while also uniting families, friends, and the community who were impacted by the disease. These initial walks started on a smaller scale but quickly gained momentum due to the emotional connection of families affected by T1D and the desire to help find a cure.
Today, Breakthrough T1D Walk gives people with T1D, their loved ones, companies and the local community the opportunity to create change and positively impact the lives of those living with T1D, while accelerating research to support life changing breakthroughs and cures.
