2023 Donnhoff Trocken Riesling $24.94
The Donnhoff family has been in the Nahe region of Germany for 250 years. The estate itself was established in the 1920's and is now on their fourth generation. It started as just four hectares and now has expanded to 25. However, the Donnhoffs do not want to expand anymore, wanting to focus on quality wine and land. Despite the Nahe being the driest region in Germany, the Donnhoffs choose not to irrigate, to allow the roots to dig deep down and produce powerful wines. This is the "trocken" bottling, which is a term used on labels to indicate the wine is dry.
2021 Leipold's Muschelkalk Silvaner Trocken $34.94
Wait until you see the bottle the wine comes in! It is in the traditional Franken bocksbeutel , a squat, flask-like shaped bottle. Franken is a region in Germany that runs along the Main River, mostly known for beer but produces silvaner as a specialty. It is mineral and dry, thriving in the cool climate of Franken, too cool for even riesling to grow. Peter Leipold is a young winemaker receiving a lot of attention. He worked for Peter Keller of Weingut Keller, one of the most respected and sought after producers in all of Germany. However, he left to specialize in silvaner, a rare grape in Germany. It has "Muschelkalk" on the bottle, signifying that the soil comes from the shell-limestone calcareous deposits from being underwater 50 million years ago.
2020 Weingut Prinz Jungfer Riesling Grosses Gewachs $59.94
Rheingau is one of the best areas in the world for riesling. It follows the western flow of the rhine river and the majority of the villages sit along the river on steep slopes made of slate soil. It is the center of modern viticulture for high quality dry riesling. In fact, over 50% of all riesling from the Rheingau is dry. This is coming from the village Hallgarten, where the Jungfer vineyard is. The Jungfer vineyard is known for high quality and is a premier wine production. The term "grosses gewachs" is used for dry wines from grosse lage sites, or "grand cru". By law, grosses gewachs wines cannot exceed nine grams per liter of sugar.
2020 Konigschaffhausen Spatburgunder Selection $18.94
Spatburgunder is German for pinot noir. Germany is the 3rd leading producer of pinot noir, behind France and the U.S. The leading region in Germany for pinot noir is Baden, the southernmost wine region in Germany, sitting on the Swiss border. This wine is coming from Kaiserstul, the most celebrated area for spatburgunder. It is the warmest and sunniest area in all of Germany and produces muscular and delicious styles of spatburgunder. The best sites sit on steep slopes of volcanic soil. It is fermented in a combination of new and old oak.

They converted their vineyards to organic in 1990, being one of the early pioneers of organic viticulture in Germany. Thay been biodynamic since 2004. This is their spatburgunder, aka, pinot noir.
2016 Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spatlese $134.94

They passed down the winery from father to son starting in the 1800's including Egon Muller I, Egon Muller II, Egon Muller III and Egon Muller IV. Eventually it will be passed to Egon Muller V. This is coming from the village Wiltinger and the vineyard Braune Kupp. Braune Kupp is highly regarded and just second best behind the famous Scharzhofberg vineyard.
