Interested in urban wildlife or simply want to have a go at something new?
Join us for a practical outdoors activity working with hedges.
About this Event

This session is part of our regular Saturday volunteering programme. It's suitable for volunteers familiar with Staa and those who are completely new. Come along to help us regularly or just this once, to try something new! *

Working together, we'll manage our wildlife areas and learn technique and theory while doing it.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hedges are the best habitat you can get for food, safety, and shelter. And we're lucky to have loads of hedges in our wildlife areas!

Join us and get involved in their annual trim, sort, and restoration.

As it's the weekend of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, we'll also be doing a one-hour bird watch and recording what we see. We'll provide field guides and binoculars, and will be able to advise how to attract birds to your garden, how to identify garden birds, and how to monitor birds for citizen science.

Suitable for all skills and abilities. The session is practical and will focus on improving the habitat of the wildlife areas. You will be given all tools and information you need (though you can bring your own gloves if you like). Please bring your own lunch and refreshments.

Meet at Ransom Road gate entrance by 10am.

Any questions, please email us at [email protected]

------------------------------------------------------------

* We provide inductions for volunteers to attend to learn all about Staa and our volunteering programme. If you like this session and hope to return, we 'll ask you attend an induction within roughly the first 3 sessions.

SESSION DETAILS

Activities: Practical gardening and conservation outdoors.

Refreshments: Please bring your own food and drink for the session - there will be a break about lunchtime. We'll provide hot drinks from the infamous storm kettle!

Amenities: A compost toilet is available with hand sanitiser for hand washing.

Terrain and weather: There are some hills and uneven surfaces, so please wear suitable shoes and dress for the weather. If it has been raining, some paths may be muddy. We'll mostly be working outdoors.

Extra information: Please tell us if you have any additional questions or requirements. We welcome all volunteers 16+ but please do tell us in advance if you are under 18.

Parking, directions, access: Before the event, you'll receive an email with details of how to find the starting point and where to park. The session is within a locked site, so please be on time, as it can be tricky to collect latecomers.

Any questions, please email us at [email protected]
