Spend your Valentine’s Day at the Kelsey, where we’ll explore artifacts related to love and marriage in the ancient world. Along the way, we’ll look at images of goddesses associated with love and marriage, as well as words about both elite and more average people. And as always, we’ll ask what the artifacts can tell us about people in the ancient world! While we’ll definitely see some statements of love, an important thing to keep in mind is that marriage—for the most part in the ancient world—was a very practical matter, designed to produce children and make strategic alliances between powerful people. This event is free and open to all visitors.
