A meditative, five-hour stitching retreat. Learn the mindful Japanese art of Sashiko while crafting your own hand-embroidered jacket.
About this Event

You’ll explore the history of Sashiko within Japanese culture, and its role in today’s movement towards circular fashion.

Only 5 guests per session. This experience is guided by Marina of The Fabric Folk CIC — a not-for-profit dedicated to nurturing mindful, creative textiles communities in Herts.

Your booking directly supports our work to keep textiles in circulation, and helps us open a local circular textile reuse hub to prevent valuable resources from going to landfill.

What’s Included

No preparation or sewing experience needed — all materials are provided:

• 1 Linen / Cotton jacket (or select another garment from our curated picks)
• 1 Sashiko needle
• Sashiko thread
• Shears for thread cutting
• 7 patterned Sashiko fabric swatches
• Tea + refreshments

Prefer to bring your own garment?
You’re very welcome — linen / lightweight cotton only, for the best stitching experience.

Lunch: We’ll take a lunch break midway through the session. Please bring your own lunch, or you’re welcome to pop out and grab something in Hertford town centre, which has plenty of nearby lunch options.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 2 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we'll cancel the class; in this case we'll inform you and allow you to get a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.
