About this Event
History & Heritage with Royalty: A Walk Through Queen Victoria’s Visit to Panshanger Park
📅 Date: Saturday, 26th July 2025
⏰ Time: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
📍 Location: Panshanger Park
Step back in time and join us for a captivating guided walk at Panshanger Park, retracing the footsteps of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert during their visit in July 1841. Led by our knowledgeable volunteer historian, David, this experience will bring the past to life with excerpts from Queen Victoria’s journal, contemporary newspaper accounts, and historic images of Panshanger House and its surroundings.
What to Expect
Beginning from a parking location near Panshanger Lane, where the Queen first crossed the 'Minirane', we’ll follow her journey through the park:
- Ascend to the site of Panshanger House, where she dined in the grand Art Gallery and received an address from the Mayor of Hertford.
- Walk along the South Terrace, where she “showed herself to the people,” before continuing to the magnificent Panshanger Oak.
- Descend into the valley to see the Keeper’s Cottage, where the Royal couple enjoyed countryside sports.
- Return along the scenic river valley to complete the walk.
Who knows? You may find out how the Cowpers are related to the present King!
