Sashiko Embroidery Crafternoon What is Sashiko? Sashiko is a traditional Japanese form of functional embroidery, literally meaning "little stabs," which uses a simple running stitch to create intricate, geometric patterns. Originating in the Edo period (1603-1868), it was used to reinforce clothing, mend garments, and add warmth, typically using white cotton thread on indigo-blue fabric.
Come and join us for a mindful Crafternoon learning about Sashiko Embroidery. Sewing beginners are very welcome!
You will create an embroidery pattern from a choice of stencils using a simple running stitch!
The fabric panel you create could be made into a drawstring bag, sunglasses case, panel for a cushion, zip pouch. Purse. Etc to be finished at home.
