Daksha Sheth Dance Company A renowned dancer with a career spanning almost five decades, Daksha Sheth draws on her knowledge of a variety of dance styles in her choreography, including Kathak, Chhau and Kalaripayattu, aesthetically combining traditional and contemporary dance. Known for constantly evolving the dance vocabulary, Sheth was the first choreographer to introduce the aerial technique in Indian dance. Her group work has received critical acclaim both in India and abroad. She has been conferred several honours for her contribution to creative and experimental dance. The sari, the jewel of the handloom industry, gives ample room for the weaver to showcase his imagination, talent and skill. Each sari is a unique extension of the weaver’s own body: his fingers and arms are both the tools and measuring sticks used in its creation. This union of the sari and the wearer is expressed through the sensuality of dance. It traces the journey of a cotton seed from its germination through numerous manual processes—carding, combing, spinning, making yarn, dyeing, and finally, the weaving of a sari, which is draped in diverse styles. The choreography includes breathtaking aerial dances. As the Sari takes centre stage, immerse yourself in a symphony of colours, from pristine white to vibrant hues. As the quintessential expression of the weaver’s imagination, talent and skill, the sari continues to be the jewel of the Indian handloom industry.
