As spring arrives on Whidbey Island, the Saratoga Orchestra invites audiences to celebrate the season with a vibrant and dynamic concert program featuring works by Maurice Ravel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and contemporary composer Stacy Garrop. This engaging performance will showcase Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”, and Stacy Garrop’s “Penelope Waits” from her Mythology Symphony. Blending classical brilliance with modern storytelling, the program highlights both timeless masterpieces and compelling contemporary music.
A highlight of the program, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major dazzles with its irresistible blend of French Impressionist color and jazz-inspired energy. Written after the composer’s exposure to American jazz, the concerto sparkles with playful rhythms, bluesy harmonies, and brilliant orchestral textures.
The orchestra will be joined by special guest, pianist Julian Garvue, who will perform as soloist in Ravel’s jazz-influenced concerto. Julian joined Los Angeles Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program in 2024 and has performed across genres from classical to pop. Before beginning his collaborative piano career, he worked for three years as a jazz pianist in New York City, recorded with The Arsonists, and even premiered his own Concertino for Piano and Orchestra with in 2018.
