About the Series
Shortly after the Museum opened in the current building, it was discovered that the expansive galleries were glorious for chamber music. Subsequently, the Museum Concert Series was born, and musicians from around the world were invited to perform against the backdrop of contemporary art. This Sunday afternoon tradition has continued for over thirty years and with the support of the community will thrive for generations to come.
Pianist Sarah Cahill, October 11, 2026
Pianist Sarah Cahill has been described as “a brilliant and charismatic advocate for modern and contemporary composers” (Time Out New York). She was named a 2018 Champion of New Music, awarded by the American Composers Forum (ACF). Sarah has commissioned and premiered over seventy compositions for solo piano. Composers who have dedicated works to Cahill include John Adams, Terry Riley, Frederic Rzewski, Pauline Oliveros, Julia Wolfe, Roscoe Mitchell, Annea Lockwood, and Ingram Marshall. Keyboard Magazine writes, “Through her inspired interpretation of works across the 20th and 21st centuries, Cahill has been instrumental in bringing to life the music of many of our greatest living composers.”

Praised by The Strad magazine and The New York Times, internationally renowned cellist Amit Peled is acclaimed as one of the most exciting and virtuosic instrumentalists on the concert stage today. Having performed in many of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., Salle Gaveau in Paris, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Konzerthaus Berlin, Peled has released over a dozen recordings on the Naxos, Centaur, Delos, and CTM Classics labels. Musical America named Peled one of the Top 30 Influencers of 2015. This is a return performance by the artist who will be dedicating the concert to the memory of Laurel Reuter, someone he considered a dear friend and mentor.

Winners of the First Prize and Amadeus Prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, the FORMOSA QUARTET uses the string quartet as a vehicle for advocacy, storytelling, and innovation. Their critically acclaimed performances at venues including the Library of Congress, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and the Kammermusiksaal at the Berliner Philharmonie have forged uncharted musical terrain that are “spellbinding” (The Strad), “remarkably fine” (Gramophone), and “go beyond the beautiful and into the territory of unexpectedly thrilling… like shots of pure espresso” (MUSO Magazine).
Del Sol Quartet—Angel Island Oratorio, April 4, 2027
Composer Huang Ruo’s “Angel Island” is an oratorio for string quartet, choir and narrator that brings to life the stark poetry of the people detained in an internment camp in San Francisco Bay in the early 1900s. It was commissioned and will be performed by the Del Sol Quartet, an ensemble described by BBC’s Gramophone as “Masters of all musical things they survey.”
