Santa Cruz Bake & Gather, inspired by the San Francisco Cake Picnic at the Legion of Honor, is organized by local residents who love dessert and want to bring people together to enjoy it. The idea is simple, a picnic in the park where everyone brings a cake or pie to share, potluck style. This free event is open to everyone in the community, whether you come to show off your best bake, or simply share in the company.
The event begins at 11:00 a.m. Tables will be set up for dropping off your cake or pie, and if we receive enough nut-free, gluten-free, vegan, or other special-diet desserts, we will create designated sections for them. The first 20 minutes will be for voting and photos, followed by open time for everyone to serve themselves and enjoy the treats. Plates and utensils will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own to help reduce waste.
To help us care for the park and ensure there is space for everyone, we ask that all guests register in advance. Bring your favorite cake or pie to share; it can be as simple or as elaborate as you like!
If you enjoy a bit of friendly competition, you can enter your dessert in the Prettiest Dessert Contest when you register. On the day of the event, each guest will receive tickets to vote for the dessert they find has the most wow-factor/beauty/pizazz/etc.
