Sanskrit Journey for Yogi: Rooted in Asana, Risen into Mantra
Join Prachi for an enriching journey into Sanskrit—the living language at the heart of yoga—and discover the meaning, sound, and spirit behind the practice.
Designed for yoga practitioners, teachers, and anyone curious about yoga's roots, this workshop explores the language that shapes the tradition. Together, we'll uncover the meaning and philosophy behind familiar asana names such as Vṛkṣāsana (Tree Pose) and Adho Mukha Śvānāsana (Downward-Facing Dog), allowing you to practice and teach with greater understanding rather than simple memorization.
We'll also explore the sacred sounds of mantra, learning the correct pronunciation and deeper meaning of the Gayatri Mantra and Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. Through guided chanting and discussion, you'll gain a richer appreciation for the power and purpose of these ancient practices.
Whether you're looking to refine your cueing as a teacher, deepen your personal practice, or simply explore the language beneath yoga, this workshop offers an opportunity to reconnect with the tradition from which yoga emerged.
In this workshop, you'll learn to:
• Understand the meaning and philosophy behind common Sanskrit asana names.
• Practice and teach yoga with greater clarity, intention, and authenticity.
• Correctly pronounce and chant the Gayatri Mantra and Mahamrityunjaya Mantra while exploring their deeper significance.
• Build a stronger connection to the roots of yoga through language, sound, and tradition.
About Prachi
Prachi's relationship with yoga began long before it became her personal practice. Raised in a family where Sanskrit, mantras, and pranayama were woven into daily life, she grew up immersed in the traditions of yoga. Her mother, a Sanskrit scholar with a deep grounding in the Vedas and Upanishads, inspired a lifelong appreciation for the language and philosophy that continue to shape her teaching today.
Prachi studied Sanskrit formally throughout her teenage years and continued learning under respected gurus during regular travels to India into her late twenties.
In 2016, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Albany with Lauren Toolin, bringing formal training to a practice she had been living since childhood.
A lifelong student, Prachi continues to explore Yog Shastra, Ayurveda, and Vedic Astrology. She brings this spirit of curiosity, humility, and reverence into every class and workshop, inviting students to experience yoga as more than movement—an opportunity to connect with its rich history, wisdom, and living tradition.
