About this Event
To work magic is to weave the unseen forces into form; to soar beyond sight; to explore the uncharted dream realm of the hidden reality.
-Starhawk
Sanctum Samhain is a ritual performance lead by Sword Magik choreographer and teacher Shannon Burla. Join her and her troupe for an evening of Samhain ritual sword magic. Resting half way between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice, Samhain is a time of death as we approach the stillness of Winter when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. Join us for a ritual that connects us to our living community, the beloved dead and to the primordial fire that is alight within us. Dance with the shadow - and the light - within yourself. Theevening will include a community Samhain ritual, snacks, and performances by local artists.
Doors open at 5:30
Samhain ritual from 6:00 - 7:00
Ritual performance from 7:00 - 9:00
The idea of ritual dance connects our spirit to our movement practice. This enables you to create dances from a different place in your mind. The concepts taught in this series create a different dynamic that can be used in performance or for private practice and teach that crafting powerful ritual movement is something you can do yourself, for yourself, for and with others.
The mission of Sword Magick is to help people connect to each other, themselves, to their spirit, and to their inner strength. To build each other up so we can create art and beauty for ourselves and each other as a means to recharge, enlighten and inspire. Art is how we process life. Why not do it with witchcraft and a big sword?
Spire is located in a residential neighborhood. Building trust and mutual support in our community is of paramount importance! Any disrespect to our neighbors will exclude you to this and future events. Parking is very limited on Athens Street. Bike, carpool, walk with friends, use Lyft , Uber, or public transit, and plan accordingly! Parking on Athens makes it hard for the residents—especially our elderly and disabled neighbors—to park near their homes. If you must drive, please park a block down on San Pablo.
