In honor of Women’s History Month, San Antonio Black History Tours presents a special edition tour centered on the often-overlooked contributions of Black women in San Antonio history.

This immersive experience uplifts the stories of trailblazers who built institutions, organized communities, and laid foundations that continue to impact the city today. Through guided storytelling and historic sites, participants will explore how Black women transformed San Antonio through resilience, leadership, and vision.


Featured Black Women of San Antonio

This tour highlights the legacy and impact of women such as:

  • Artemisia Bowden – Educator and long-time president of St. Philip’s College
  • Ella Austin – Founder of the Ella Austin Orphanage
  • Mrya Davis HemmingsDelta Sigma Theta founder, teacher, and actress
  • Hattie Briscoe – Laywer and community builder

…and many more women whose contributions shaped San Antonio’s social, educational, and cultural landscape.
