Theme:
Professional communication, boundaries, advocacy, respect, flexibility, professionalism, and the difference between intent and impact.
Meeting Format:
This session will use a facilitated large-group discussion format centered around open-ended questions. Participants will be encouraged to share professional experiences, differing perspectives, and practical strategies as an interpreting community. The goal is not to identify one “correct” approach, but to examine how interpreters may understand and apply common professional concepts differently.
Educational Objectives:
Identify at least three ways individual perspectives can influence professional communication.
Compare differing interpretations of commonly used professional terms such as boundaries, professionalism, respect, and advocacy.
Develop at least two strategies for communicating expectations or boundaries clearly in professional situations.
Analyze how intent and impact may differ during interactions with colleagues, consumers, and other professionals.
