About this Event
During the October SAME Anchorage Post Luncheon, we will learn about the USACE Barrow Alaska Coastal Erosion Project. It is a 5 mile coastal storm damage reduction project to be constructed in Utqiagvik (Barrow), Alaska. The project consists of a ¾ mile revetment along a coastal bluff, ½ mile of armored berm, and 3 &1/2 miles of raised and armored road. Utqiagvik has experienced rapid rates of coastal erosion (up to 10 ft/yr locally) resulting from increased storm intensity and open water into the fall storm season. The project is designed to reduce erosion along the coast of Utqiagvik. The presentation will focus on project feature development and design.
