Rock Island Events presents SAMAEL live in Cyprus for the first time on 13 November at Downtown Live, Nicosia with co-support acts Godblood and Temple of Evil.
SAMAEL:
30 years of constant musical evolution.
Over 100 original songs composed and recorded.
Nearly 1000 concerts given around the globe.
SAMAEL resurrected black metal in the early 1990s with the landmark debut Worship Him, introduced symphonic black metal in 1994 with the classic Ceremony of Opposites, and pioneered industrial metal with Passage in 1996.
SAMAEL awakened on the 14th of July 1988 when brothers Xytraguptor and Vorphalack loaded their musical gear into an atomic bunker. After the self-financed Medieval Prophecy, the duet moved to Geneva to record what would become their first album, Worship Him, released in April 1991 through Osmose Production. Blood Ritual followed as their first release on Century Media.
Ceremony Of Opposites marked a major step forward for SAMAEL, bringing a darker, more symphonic approach to their sound and becoming one of the defining releases in their catalogue. With Passage, released in August 1996, the band pushed further into new territory, performing live with a drum machine and helping shape the sound of industrial metal.
Across Eternal, Reign Of Light, Solar Soul, Above, Lux Mundi and Hegemony, SAMAEL continued to evolve while touring extensively across Europe, Japan, Latin America and North America. Their live history includes major open air festivals such as Dynamo, Wacken, With Full Force and Summer Breeze, as well as their biggest show to date at Rock al Parque in Bogota, Colombia.
In 2026, SAMAEL returned with new singles Hidden Empire and Hail to the Sun, hopefully teasing the beginning of a new chapter for the band.
GODBLOOD:
Godblood represent one of Cyprus’ early black metal names. Formed in Nicosia in 1990, the band released Flowers in 1994, a 666-copy demo that spread beyond the island through tape traders and mail-order networks. Their 2022 EP Morbid Heritage brought forward previously unheard songs composed almost thirty years earlier, reaffirming the band’s dedication to ancient black metal tradition. 2026 will see the release of a new EP opening a new chapter in their journey…
TEMPLE OF EVIL:
Temple of Evil bring Cypriot black metal rooted in philosophy, ideology and ritual atmosphere. Formed in mid-2008, the band has released 2 albums which explored the vast perceptions of inner chaos. Having performed numerous times both locally and abroad the band manifests its spiritual turbulence on stage in absolute immersion.
