Witness hometown musician Sam Gleaves live as he takes the stage with Josh Goforth and Hasee Ciaccio at the Millwald Theatre to celebrate the new album release! From touring in Asia and Europe to showcasing his talents throughout the United States, Sam combines the old time music that he learned at home in Southwest Virginia with original songs that tell modern Appalachian stories.
Appalachian author Lee Smith described Sam Gleaves as “courageous as hell and country to the bone--the best young songwriter around.” In 2015, Sam released a critically-acclaimed debut album, AIN’T WE BROTHERS, produced by GRAMMY-winner Cathy Fink, followed by five additional studio recordings. Sam has performed across the United States and toured in Europe and Asia, appearing in concert with respected folk musicians such as Cathy Fink, Marcy Marxer, Sheila Kay Adams, Kay Justice, Peggy Seeger, John McCutcheon, and Mary McPartlan. Sam currently serves as Bluegrass Ensemble Director and Appalachian Instruments Instructor at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. Master musicians Josh Goforth and Hasee Ciaccio collaborated with Sam on his new recording, titled HONEST, which will be released in August, 2024.
A native of Madison County, North Carolina, Josh Goforth is a highly accomplished storyteller and acoustic musician playing close to 20 different instruments. Before graduating from East Tennessee State University with a degree in music education, Josh toured with the well-known ETSU Bluegrass Band. Josh has performed in all 50 US states and all over Europe, Asia, and Australia with David Holt, Laura Boosinger, Appalachian Trail, the Josh Goforth Trio, the Steep Canyon Rangers and Open Road. Josh has performed at prestigious venues including the Grand Ole Opry, the Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall. In 2000, Josh played fiddle in the film Songcatcher, both on screen and on the soundtrack. In 2009, Josh was nominated for a Grammy for his album with David Holt entitled CUTTING LOOSE. Josh is currently on faculty at the Academy for the Arts in Asheville, North Carolina and performs all over the world.
Born and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Hasee Ciaccio is a skilled, driving upright bassist, a captivating singer, and a member of leading roots music ensembles. Hasee is a graduate of the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass, Old Time, and Roots Music Studies program. In recent years, Hasee toured and recorded with Laurie Lewis, Sister Sadie, Alice Gerrard, and Jake Blount. During Hasee’s time with Sister Sadie, the band brought home various International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, including “Entertainer of the Year” in 2020. Hasee has shared the stage with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury, Molly Tuttle, Dale Ann Bradley, and David Grisman, and played notable venues such as the Grand Ole Opry, the Lincoln Center and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.
