Salsa is a Latin dance influenced by several styles, like mambo and rumba. The dance is characterized by energetic footwork, spins, and turns. We teach On1, which is characterized by a lot of spinning and dancing in a slot (unlike Cuban or Cumbia styles).This event will feature live music by Nueva Era! Led by Grammy-nominated bandleader and producer Steve Guasch, Orquesta Nueva Era (ONE) is one of the Pacific Northwest’s powerhouse salsa ensembles. Founded in Seattle in 1997, ONE blends classic salsa tradition with rich modern arrangements, featuring a five-piece horn section and a driving rhythm lineup. Their music has earned international acclaim, including global radio play for their recent single “Sombrero donde no hay cabeza,” and their upcoming album Buscando La Verdad is set to release in 2025. Fronted by vocalists Francis Rosa Vélez and Kevin Beltrán, ONE brings high-energy, dance-forward salsa that fills the floor every time they play.
This month's Salsa Social will also feature a live performance by BGC Dance! BGC Dance is a Seattle-based Latin-fusion dance community that dances salsa, bachata, cha cha, and draws inspiration from other dance forms like contemporary, jazz, and heels. Their unique style combines their dancers' experience into a feel-good Latin-fusion. Their mission is to create a space for latin dancers to deeply understand the roots and technique of dance to empower each dancer to intentionally make choices in their movement.
Beginner Lesson: 8:30pm to 9:30pm
Social Dance: 9:30pm to 1:30am
