Fuelled by biting hot-girl lyricism and no-f★☆ks-given personality, Vv Pete turns being that kid from western Sydney into a stance rather than just a backstory.
Eleven years on, she moves through Varvie World as a Sudanese Australian artist whose club rap is driven by a decision to “follow my intuition,” reading each co-sign as confirmation rather than luck. The mixtape combines gqom, drill, Jersey, and Baltimore rhythms with baile funk into a circuit that spans from western Sydney back to Sudan, a conduit for strong women and family pride, from her mother saying "Sudan is proud" to a grandfather who now tells her to follow her dreams. “I’m bringing people into my universe,” she told NME, one where hate comments feed the algorithm and where she wants listeners “to feel empowered, to stay confident” in their own lane.
Beside her, Utility steers the sound as producer and collaborator, expanding that universe with his boundary-pushing approach. VV Pete and Utility are coming to perform in Prague at F2's Salo for the first time on Wednesday, February 4.
