Saline Wetlands Workshop Series

How do land managers care for a wetland landscape over time?

This workshop examines past and present approaches to managing saline wetlands and the decisions involved in maintaining healthy, resilient habitat. Participants will learn how land-management goals and practices have changed and how conservation staff select tools and techniques for particular sites.

The workshop will include a discussion of prescribed fire, its role in habitat management, and the equipment used by trained burn crews. Participants will have an opportunity to view selected prescribed-burn tools and learn about planning, safety, and ecological objectives.

Topics include:

• Historic and current land-management practices
• Habitat-management goals
• The role of prescribed fire
• Prescribed-burn planning and safety
• Tools used by land-management crews

Important field information:

This is an outdoor field workshop that will include hiking on uneven terrain. Closed-toe shoes are required. Participants should bring bug spray and dress appropriately for the weather and field conditions.

This workshop is weather permitting. If it must be canceled because of weather or unsafe conditions, registered participants will be notified by email at least two hours before the scheduled start time.

Attendance is limited to 15 participants because parking is limited. Advance Eventbrite registration is required.
