In March the Salem Poetry Project moves back to the Bush Barn Annex.2000 Steve Slemenda co-founded the Silverton Poetry Association and for 20 years was a chief organizer of the annual Silverton Poetry Festival and other events. He is also a founding, active member of the Mid-Valley Poetry Association. In the fall of 2018 he launched a biweekly radio program, Poetry on the Air, at KMUZ in Salem which he hosted for over five years.
He retired in 2014 from a career teaching writing and film studies at Chemeketa Community College. He is currently serving as secretary of the Oregon Poetry Association.
He has been published here and there in various writing projects within Oregon. He is currently awaiting his first national rejection for poems submitted to Sun Magazine last August.
Steve lives with his wife, Robin, in Silverton, where he reads, writes, and avoids arithmetic.
The Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.
