SAID DOG was born in 2009 in the southwestern United States, where Paul and Aidyl Jago, along with their trusty canine companion, Rico, spent several years living among the geological wonders of the high and Sonoran deserts of Arizona, and the 14,000+ foot mountains of Colorado. They recorded three EPs in their mobile studio while living in various mining communities throughout AZ and CO. SAID DOG’s music is a roots rock journal, infused with desert dust and mountain breezes, embedded with spirituality, love and family. Paul Jago is best known for being the lead singer and primary songwriter of the award-winning Canadian alternative rock band, The Gandharvas. The Gandharvas released three full-length records with Watch Music/MCA Hollywood and toured North America from 1994 to 1999. Their popular singles “The First Day of Spring,” “Downtime,” and “Watching The Girl” were favourites on MuchMusic and Canadian and American radio, earning them several awards and nominations, including Junos and MMVAs. Aidyl Jago (Good Juju, The Unearthing) is a multidisciplinary musician who brings soul, class, sass and killer harmonies to all of her performances. SAID DOG is joined by prodigious percussionist (and studio drummer for the gandharvas) Noel Jago, and stalwart bass aficionado Steve Smith (30 Odd 6, The Killbillies, Good Juju, Chris Goodwin Band).
SAID DOG is now based in northern British Columbia, among the aspens and pines, lakes and river valleys, on the unceded ancestral territory of the Lheidli T’enneh. And yes, they named the band after their dog.
