About this Event
Join us for an exciting, hands-on workshop led by artist Jabari Jefferson as he shares his creative vision for the museum’s upcoming exhibit, Sacred Spaces. This interactive session provides a unique opportunity for Annapolis community members to engage directly in the art-making process. Participants will sort and cut materials, which Jefferson will later transform into a large-scale mixed-media installation featured in the exhibit. The workshop aims to introduce the community to Jabari's mixed media techniques and to highlight the artistic potential of every day, repurposed objects. Together, we will work on deconstructing and preparing materials for the final installation, giving participants a first-hand experience of how contemporary mixed media art is made. After each workshop, Jabari will take the deconstructed pieces back to his studio, where he will assemble them into a stunning large-scale installation inspired by the stained glass windows and motifs of Mount Moriah AME Church.
The final artwork, incorporating found objects donated by Annapolis residents, will be a tribute to the rich heritage of the church and the Maryland Commission of African American History and Culture. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of how ordinary objects can be transformed into art, organized through principles like color, shape, texture, and line.
Don't miss this opportunity to contribute to an evolving work of art that will be featured in our 2024 exhibition!
