Sacred Networks: New Perspectives on Hagiography and Saints’ Cults

This conference is jointly organised by the Celtic Hagiography Network and Norse Hagiography Network (Courtney Selvage, Tiffany White, Jesse Harrington, Davide Salmoiraghi, Sarah Waidler, Steffen Hope, Russell Ó Ríagáin, Natasha Bradley and Nicholas Thyr). It has been made possible through the UCD Humanities Institute, UCD College of Arts & Humanities, and the Scottish Society for Northern Studies, with support from the School of Irish, Celtic Studies & Folklore.

It features papers focused on aspects of hagiography and saints' Lives from medieval Ireland, Wales, Brittany, and Scandinavia, and brings together scholars working in both the fields of Celtic Studies and Old Norse/Scandinavian Studies.

We are pleased to feature a keynote address from Professor Siân Grønlie (University of Oxford), "Feeling Contrite: Affect and Virtue in Jóns saga postula" which is open to the public.

Registration is free and includes coffee, pastries, and lunch for both days. Spaces to attend the conference in person are however limited so early registration is recommended.

Online attendance to the conference and keynote is also possible - please only register for the keynote in person if you are not attending the rest of the conference in person.

We have also planned a conference dinner at Achara at 20:30 on 1 May. The cost (including gratuity) is around €55 per person. Limited assistance for the dinner is available for students/underwaged attendees. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
