The 'Thaat' is an essential concept in Hindustani classical music, serving as a framework for understanding the organization of raagas. It represents a set of seven notes, known as 'swara,' which form the basis for various melodic structures. There are ten primary thaats. The Kalyan Thaat is one of the ten foundational thaats whose beauty lies in its luminous, serene mood, characterized by the use of the sharpened fourth note, Teevra Ma. This fundamental parent scale of Hindustani classical music—often compared to the Lydian mode—evokes peace, devotion, and a majestic, contemplative atmosphere perfectly suited for the evening.
This concert will feature some of the most melodious Raagas (melodies) of the Kalyan thaat performed by the artistes.
