STRANGE EDITIONS 4.0

A weeknight book club at Strange Company!

☆☆☆☆☆

Our much-loved book club Strange Editions returns this September after a long hiatus with the launch of Alan Carter's new crime novel, Prize Catch, which we will be showcasing and discussing on the night.

The much awaited novel will be available at the event and a selection of his other published books will also be able to be purchased over the bar in the lead-up to the session.
Supplied by none other than our fabulous neighbours, the ever friendly and knowledgeable crew at New Edition Bookstore, our shelves now also feature his back catalogue of award winning novels from this week up until the event.
Make sure to mention the lineup to the staff at Strange Company and we will be more than happy to have a chat with you about the books on offer and give you any further info over a drink or two.

On the night, esteemed author Lisa Ellery will be present to interview Alan, get the discussions flowing and open up the floor for Q&A time to gain a deeper understanding of the ideas and notions presented and where the concepts stem from. A crime novelist herself, she understands the nuances of creating intriguing characters and how to weave them into a seriously thick plot line along with gripping suspense and grit.

We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday the 19th to celebrate the release of Alan's newest book and delve a bit deeper into the themes it evokes, plus how he got into the field.

Join us and enjoy some quality certified organic Bordeaux-style vino, thanks to our lovely friends in Wilyabrup, the wonderful team at Rosily Vineyard.

Another special thanks to everyone at Fremantle Press who have been instrumental in putting this series together!

About the Author:

Alan Carter was born in Sunderland, UK. He immigrated to Australia in 1991 and now lives just south of Hobart. He sometimes works as a television documentary director. In his spare time he plunges into the icy Tasmanian waters for fun. Alan is also the author of two award-winning crime series: the Cato Kwong series, set in Western Australia, that includes Crocodile Tears, Prime Cut, Getting Warmer, Bad Seed and Heaven Sent. The other is the Nick Chester series which includes the novels Marlborough Man and Doom Creek.

Prime Cut won the Ned Kelly Award for Best First Fiction (2010) and was shortlisted for the UK Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger Award (2010). The audio version of Prime Cut was longlisted for a BBC Broadcast Award in 2017.

ABOUT PRIZE CATCH

When Roz Chen’s wife, Niamh, is killed in a hit-and-run on a lonely Tasmanian road, the grieving widow begins to wonder if Niamh’s death was an accident after all. Meanwhile, SAS veteran Sam Willard is hoping for a fresh start with a job at a salmon farm. But as allegations of old war crimes surface and Sam is ‘promoted’ as a special operative against anti-salmon farm activists, he and Roz form an unlikely alliance.

Forced to retreat into the unforgiving Tasmanian wilderness, Roz and Sam find themselves scrambling for the truth with murderous thugs on their trail.

PRAISE FOR THE BOOK

‘For fans of Chris Hammer and Garry Disher.’ Books + Publishing

Guest panelist and interviewer Lisa Ellery hasn't always been a novelist!
Here is some background information about her in the lead-up to our special event:

Lisa Ellery was raised on a farm near Esperance on Western Australia’s south coast. She studied law and arts at the University of Western Australia before returning to regional WA in 1998 to commence her career as a lawyer in the goldmining city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. She soon fell in love with Kal and its people, and in 2008 she started her own law firm there. She worked predominantly in commercial and mining law before selling her practice in 2022 to focus on her writing career. Her second novel, Hot Ground, will be published by Fremantle Press in August 2025.

This is a FREE event, however as places are limited, RSVP is essential. Secure your spot at the bar or by following the link.
