Rømmegrøt is a warm Norwegian porridge, similar to a rich pudding, eaten with a drizzle of melted butter and a good sprinkling of cinnamon. At its core, this is a porridge that is made from flour, fresh sour cream, sugar, milk, and flavorings. Literally, Rømmegrøt translates into two parts: rømme (sour cream) and grøt (porridge). Since the sour cream in the U.S. does not have a high enough fat content, we use heavy cream instead. While this eliminates some of the tangy taste, it is still delicious.
