About this Event

Slow down, stitch, and connect. Join us for a cozy evening of mindful mending and creative textile crafting—no experience required!

Whether you are looking to patch up a favorite pair of jeans, want to learn the basics of hand-stitching, or are simply searching for a welcoming community of people to sit and craft with, this space is for you.

Hosted by Kon Korazon Designs inside the beautiful, locally crafted atmosphere of Maker House Co., this workshop is all about the joy of slow, sustainable making. It’s a low-pressure environment designed to help you unwind, work with your hands, and connect with fellow creative souls in Ottawa.

The Mindful Coaster

Hand-stitching has been used for centuries both as an art form and a practical solution to sustainable living. From the simple straight stitch to the creative forms of Kantha and Sashiko, you will learn that textile work can be both deeply creative and an enjoyable way to give new life to old fabrics.

In this workshop, we will be focusing entirely on the art of crafting your own custom fabric coaster. Dive into our curated stash of zero-waste materials to design and stitch a beautiful, functional piece—the perfect canvas for practicing new stitches and letting your creative juices flow.

This Workshop is Perfect For:

  • Absolute Beginners: If you've never picked up a needle and thread, this coaster project is the ultimate low-pressure way to learn the ropes!
  • Mindful Makers: Anyone looking for a calming, intentional activity to decompress and enjoy the rhythm of slow stitching.
  • Community Seekers: Experienced stitchers who want a warm, inspiring environment to sit, chat, and create alongside others.

Take Your Skills Home: The foundational hand-stitching techniques you master while making your coaster are the exact tools you need for sustainable garment care. Use these new skills to join us for future mindful mending sessions, or use them to proudly patch and save your own favorite clothing items at home!
