August 15th will be here before we know it!
Do you know what’s special about that date? It’s the day of our Annual Scholarship Race!
It’s the day when skippers and crews welcome junior sailors aboard for a fantastic day of racing on the waters of Rockland Harbor and Penobscot Bay. Last year, more than 30 young sailors joined us as crew members. If you’ve never participated before, ask someone who has—they’ll tell you it’s one of the most enjoyable events of the season for sailors of every age.
The race entry fee is just $150, and it’s a great value. Your registration includes:
● An official Scholarship Race T-shirt (a $25 value)
● Four wristbands for dinner and drinks (a $20 value each)
Once again, Allagash Brewing is generously sponsoring the beer, and we’ll also have wine, soft drinks, and water available.
Last year’s event raised more than $8,000 for youth sailing programs. This year, we’d love to surpass that total—but we need your help! Register https://www.regattaman.com/new_event_page.php?race_id=568&cancel_dest=calendar.php your boat and join us on the water. If you can’t race this year, please consider making a donation instead.
We’re once again partnering with the Sail, Power & Steam Museum, and donations made through our GoFundMe campaign are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
We also need a few volunteers to help with shoreside activities. If you can lend a hand at the morning skippers’ meeting by helping distribute T-shirts and skipper swag bags, we’d greatly appreciate it. And if you own a business—or know someone who does—and would like to contribute items for the swag bags, please let us know.
The post-race awards celebration is open to all members, so even if you’re not racing, come join us for the festivities!
Most importantly, remember what this event is really about: the kids.
The funds raised through the Scholarship Race help support local youth sailing by:
● Assisting high school sailing teams
● Covering regatta travel and registration fees
● Providing free introductory sailing lessons
● Supporting other youth boating and sailing programs
Our mission says it best:
Our mission is to encourage and financially support a range of boating activities while sustaining a strong tradition of youth sailing and training.
Thank you for helping us invest in the next generation of sailors. We hope to see you on the water on August 15th!
If you cannot participate for any reason, I would love to support youth Sailing, please consider donating to our Go Fund Me
