Ryan Young brings fresh and exciting ideas to traditional Scottish music, earning international praise for his spellbinding fiddle playing. His debut album was recorded with four-time GRAMMY winner Jesse Lewis (Béla Fleck, Yo-Yo Ma) and launched at the Feakle Traditional Music Festival in County Clare alongside renowned guitarist Dennis Cahill (Martin Hayes; The Gloaming).
He has received multiple MG ALBA Scots Trad Awards nominations, including Musician of the Year (2025), Album of the Year (2024) and Live Act of the Year (2023).
Ryan breathes new life into very old and often forgotten tunes with his distinctive style. Often described as “poetry without words,” his playing is rich with melodic invention, rhythmic drive, and expressive dynamics, taking audiences on an emotional and adventurous musical journey. He has toured extensively across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.
Ryan was twice a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards and BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year. He was named Up and Coming Artist of the Year at the Scots Trad Awards in 2017 and Folking.com Musician of the Year in 2018.
Ryan recently completed recording his third studio album, produced by legendary Irish fiddler Martin Hayes, due for release in May 2026.
